Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests indicate the fluid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for information.
A high-ranking official commented the vandalism made him without words and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
